The documentary takes its name approximately 25 Chilean economists attending the University of Chicago and other prestigious universities early 60's to study under the influence of neoliberal economists Milton Friedman and Arnold Harberger. After embrace the neoliberal ideas of Friedman, these economists returned to attend Pinochet in the imposition of these new policies free market. They privatized nearly all aspects of society, and Chile soon became a typical example of free market capitalism under the barrel of a gun. The film takes as its starting Pinochet's death and then a legacy that has led to social struggles expressed on the Day of the Young Combatant, student movements and called Mapuche conflict. The Chicago Conspiracy is a response to a global conspiracy of neo-liberalism, militarism and authoritarianism.
